Under the Bell Tower
Under the Bell Tower is the official new letter for the Reinhardt College faculty and staff edited by Lauren Thomas who is director of media relations with the college. Under the Bell Tower comes out every month and every faculty and staff member of the college receives a copy in their mail box. Some of the articles include: Kudos and Congrats, News and Notes and birthday of Faculty and Staff. April’s issue gives a recap of Reinhardt’s annual faculty appreciation luncheons
Under the Bell Tower, was originally consisted of three news letters. One went to the students of the college, the other went to the faculty and staff of the college, and one went to the Lake Arrowhead community. The newsletter to the faculty and staff college was the same accept different colors of paper and different formats. So both the faculty and staff newsletter was combined into the Blue and Gold. Much of the Blue and Gold was devoted to the school calendar. Around 2000 calendars started to be sent through mail and e-mail to students and faculty. Under the Bell Tower revived because President Isherwood wanted an internal news letter to improve communication among faculty and staff. The news letter was named after a suggestion from Dr. Donald Gregory. The news letter has gone from a once a month e-mail with a PDF that was about two pages long to the four page current addition.
Last year Under the Bell Tower was one of the things to improve on the agenda for marketing and communication department. In August surveys went out to the faculty and staff about improving the newsletter. This year faculty and staff have been more active in contributing news articles to the newsletter. Still the marketing staff has to go through campus e-mails and the college achieves to find information for the news articles.
Under the Bell Tower seems to be an effective internal news letter. Faculty and Staff are informed on events of the college, which is the internal communication has been lacking in the past. Furthermore, the news letter improves morale of college employees when recognized for their accomplishments Under the Bell Tower seems to be receiver focused because the editor values feedback from the faculty and staff of the college. The feedback used from the survey in the fall and spring is used to make the news letter more focused on the receiver. Since Under the Bell Tower is delivered to all employees every member, all should know the important events and accomplishments of employees
